  • Origins
Chinese folklore has it that immortals bestowed herbal jelly on humanity as a summer refreshment. The plant grows in the wild in an unbridled and willful manner as heaven pleases on the ground or upright in pursuit of survival.

After careful selection of ingredients, passage of time, braising with a peaceful mind, a cooling and soothing summer refreshment is generated. Like gold shining through a black surface it reveals the multiple layers of life. Low-key purity and specialization over one century.

In 1900, the Chang Family launched a Mesona & Grass Jelly business in a traditional market in Yuanlin Township. This purely natural grass jelly was prepared according to an ancient recipe by employing simple techniques accompanied by long bygone summer days.
 
  • Booming 70s
In line with a B2B business model, a central factory was established and operations were outsourced to numerous food manufacturers in Taiwan. After establishment of a professional OEM business model, steady progress was made towards high-quality, stable procedures in accordance with food safety standards.
Rigorous controls and multi-layered inspections at every stage of the growing and preparation process ensure top quality without pesticide residues. The Shangli Food Factory was established in the same period to set a solid foundation in the field of herbal jelly supply.

Due to the impact of a commercialized multidimensional society, consumption patterns have shifted from physical to virtual modes with innovation and food safety as the basis. In 2010, Yuanlin Food Co., Ltd. was founded to accelerate the development of diversified R&D and application services for herbal jelly, the company’s sole product. Based on the concept of giving back to local communities, the company started to grow native herbal jelly plants in Tongluo Township in Miaoli County, Taiwan in the context of a contractual farming system to assist local farmers, ensure stable quality, reduce the carbon footprint, and make a contribution to environmental protection and conservation.
